We identified that a happiness culture could keep employees productive, enthusiastic, and committed, even assist our organization in retaining our best employees. Our objective was to support our employees in attaining Health to Happiness; hence we rolled out many recreations, sports, health, and wellness initiatives which in turn lead to happiness. Being healthy is the most significant indicator of people’s spiritual, mental, and physical well-being. Happiness is achievable when people are in good physical health and general wholesome. On 20th March 2016, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai launched the National Happiness and Positivity Programme. Tristar in the past many years, the organization had been implementing recreation and sports activities already hence in September 2017 Group CEO Mr. Eugene Mayne formed a formal Recreation and Happiness Committee.

Process:

The Recreation and Happiness Committee meets once a month to evaluate and plan activities for every quarter of the year. Each member forms a sub-committee and they invite volunteers across all departments to help organize the particular event. The Recreation and Happiness Committee meets once a month to evaluate and plan activities for every quarter of the year. Each member forms a sub-committee and they invite volunteers across all departments to help organize the particular event. This practice has been successful because everyone in the sub-committee gets a chance to share their talents. The following were the activities conducted :



  • Walk, Lose Weight and Be Healthy program from October 1 to December 10, 2017

  • 10-minute stretch break exercise for office staff every day at 4pm

  • Alternate Tuesday evening Yoga sessions from 6pm to 7pm

  • Staff Bowling Fellowship on October 14, 2017.

  • Happiness Day Lunch on March 20, 2018

  • Tristar Outdoor Cricket Tournament on two Fridays in January 2018

  • Indoor recreation activities (Table Tennis, Carom, Chess) any day after office hours

  • Indoor Sports Day (Cricket, Volleyball, Football and Badminton) on July 20, 2018

  • Indoor Carom Tournament at Staff Accommodation in November to December 2017

  • Fielding of two Football Teams at DULSCO League on September 7, 2018 (team members practiced for two months)

  • Fielding of two Indoor Cricket Teams at SMART Cup together with other companies on November 23, 2018

  • Participation of 40 staff at Dubai Marathon on January 26, 2018 (1 joined 42K and the rest completed 10K and 4K)

  • Participation of 6 women staff at the November 2017 and November 2018 Dubai Women’s Run

  • Participation of men and women staff at the November 23, 2018 Diabetes Walk

The “Walk, Lose Weight and Be Healthy” program has recorded a combined 20,964,373 number of steps taken by almost 90 staff which is equal to 15,240 kilometers of 362 full marathons. They lost a combined 55 kilos from October 1 to December 10, 2017. The program motivated more than 30 individuals to continue their daily walk exercise with jogging to…

The “Walk, Lose Weight and Be Healthy” program has recorded a combined 20,964,373 number of steps taken by almost 90 staff which is equal to 15,240 kilometers of 362 full marathons. They lost a combined 55 kilos from October 1 to December 10, 2017. The program motivated more than 30 individuals to continue their daily walk exercise with jogging to maintain a healthy lifestyle. On January 26, 2018 they joined the 10K and 5K run of the prestigious annual Dubai Marathon where Assistant GM Operations Arundhan Alphones participated in his very first full marathon. He finished in 04:18:15. The Top Walkers and Weight Losers of the “Walk, Lose Weight and Be Healthy” program are:



  • Rajesh Divakaran with 2,198,441 steps or 1,675 kilometers or 26 kilometers per day for 63 days. He lost 14.1 kilos.

  • Karthikeyan Venugopalan with 1,975,103 steps, or 1,501 kilometers or 23 kilometers per day for 63 days. He lost 4.5 kilos.

  • Arundhan Alphones with 1,605,525 steps and 7.8 kilos lost

  • Parvez Raza with 1,733,735 steps and 3.8 kilos lost

  • Ailene Bravo with 1,406,795 steps and 6.5 kilos lost


Special Award was given to John Varghese who was 6th in the Top Walkers with 1,033,930 steps or 788 kilometers or 12 kilometers per day for 63 days. Another Special Award was given to Adela who was 3rd in Top Weight Losers with 6.7 kilos lost The winners were awarded at the Annual Staff Party held at Lapita Resort on December 15, 2018.
